I have gotten in contact with the principals of several elementary schools in SBISD. Each one gave me an enthusiastic response and the email of the 5th grade math department head. I just need to find times to meet with them, and figure out my scheduling. Other than that, the responses are encouraging and I can't wait to meet them all. I need to work on the actual math problem I am challenging the kids with, but so far the contacting process is going well and I am excited to go forward with the project this semester.

If this summer were to embody a real person, her middle name would be busy. Cheesy, I know, but true. I have left for a week, gotten back, and repeated that cycle three times over. On top of having been gone and incredibly busy, one of the main obstacles I am facing starting this project is being able to properly communicate with the schools I need to interact with. Thus far, I haven't started the communication process because, well, it is summer and all the schools and teachers and principals are on relatively the same schedule I am. However, August is literally right around the corner, meaning that this Thursday, (I have that day off) I will be able to start getting in touch with the schools I need to and getting the ball rolling. I am starting to realize how nerve racking this project is going to be, but it is more exciting because of that I feel. Through volunteering at the community center by my house recently, my love for working with kids has grown, and the compassion I have in wanting to provide them with bright secure futures has been expanded upon. I cannot wait to have the opportunity to meet the staff of the schools I wish to work with, the kids I will be working with, and the personalities and brains that shine so vibrantly within them. I am nervous because I am going into this independently, never having done anything like this before. So is life though, and I am incredibly excited to see how I will grow in this project and learn more about the minds of our future.
I will update again once I begin to get into contact with the principals and schools I will be working with, but for now, I am logging off to get some sleep. Sincerely, Colette Daulton |
